Montessori Reading is a beginning reading and writing program that I have developed over the thirty years I have taught in Montessori schools. Most of the children in my class begin to read at age four, and are reading fluently when they leave me at age six.

Maria Montessori developed the language program used in Montessori schools to teach Italian. Italian is a phonetic language. Once the children learned the basic sounds of the alphabet, they could take off from there pretty easily. English is a different matter. I found that I needed an organized and comprehensive attack on the irregularities of the English language.

I have developed a series of books that introduce phonetic letter sounds, phonogram combinations, reading simple sentences, and reading and writing words that name everyday objects, animals, etc. A teaching guide and a child's journal are included.

It works and the children love the books.
